Caught on Camera: Heroic LA Residents Step In as Suspected Wildfire Starter Targets Their Community
In a remarkable act of courage and unity, residents of Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, stopped a suspected arsonist in his tracks as wildfires ravage California. The swift action by these vigilant citizens may have saved countless homes and lives.
KTLA reported that on Thursday afternoon, police were called to Arcos Drive and Galendo Street after a man armed with a blowtorch was caught attempting to ignite Christmas trees and garbage near a residential area. This terrifying incident occurred as the Kenneth Fire, which began in the nearby San Fernando Valley, continued its rapid spread, threatening homes in West Hills and Calabasas.
But the residents didn’t wait for help to arrive. They took matters into their own hands. Witnesses described how neighbors quickly mobilized to stop the individual, who was holding what appeared to be a “flamethrower.”
Renata Grinshpun, a local resident, shared her account with KTLA:
“We were sitting in the backyard and suddenly, we hear a car come to a screeching halt and the guy is running out saying, ‘Stop! Drop what you’re holding! Neighbors, he’s trying to start a fire! Call 911!’”
Grinshpun described how the community came together to subdue the suspect. “A few gentlemen surrounded him and got him on his knees. They got some zip ties, a rope, and we were able to do a citizen’s arrest,” she added.
Exclusive footage obtained by FOX LA captured the intense moment when neighbors sprang into action to restrain the suspect, who reportedly refused to back down. “He was very focused on moving forward,” one witness said.

A police source told FOX 11 that the man may be linked to the Kenneth Fire, which has already scorched 960 acres and continues to grow.
Thanks to these brave residents, one more threat to their community was neutralized. Their quick thinking serves as a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of everyday citizens in the face of danger.
